Overcoming depression, anxiety and a nervous breakdown |

Danny has carved out an extraordinary 25-year career in the AFL as a champion player for the St Kilda Football Club, Head Coach of the Richmond Football Club, and high profile media personality with Fox Sports, Channel Nine, Triple M and SEN1116.

On screen and over the airwaves, ‘Spud’ has perfectly blended his unique sense of humour and fun-loving nature with insightful and comprehensive analysis of modern-day AFL football. But while everything seemed ideal on the surface to the outside world, Danny was experiencing a very different existence behind closed doors.

After attempting to guide Essendon FC’s coaches through the drugs scandal that rocked the game in 2013 as CEO of the AFL Coaches Association, Danny took time away from the game to deal with depression and the nervous breakdown he suffered.

In his presentation, Danny talks about his childhood, farming life, his father and his own family, the pressures of playing and coaching in the AFL, running the AFL Coaches Association and a win-at-all-costs never-say-die attitude that culminated in a downward spiral into depression and a nervous breakdown.

He delivers a first-hand account of what that is like, the signs he saw but ignored leading up to his breakdown, and what he has done since to work his way back from the brink. Don’t miss this powerful presentation from one of Australian sports most loved characters.
